Starting off the Year of the rabbit with a brand new kind of post! I’ve been wanting to share some of my favorite green products for a long time since what we put on our bodies is just as important to our health. It can affect our hormones so as a woman who’s trying to achieve hormone balance this was really vital to my overall health. So I’m adding a whole new section on my website dedicated to products that I’ve personally tried and sharing my honest thoughts on them.
Beauty products are something I have been obsessing over because I’ve slowly been switching them to cleaner ingredients. I started getting more concerned about the ingredients that I’ve been using ever since I was pregnant with my firstborn over ten years ago. I was concerned about how they could affect the health of my child, which prompted me to think about how they could affect my own health.
Growing up I actually wanted to be a makeup artist, inspired by the late Kevin Aucoin. I still recall the Oprah episode he was on where he transformed Oprah and some of the viewers on the show. After watching that episode I realized the power of makeup on how fun and creative it can be. I even have his book Making Faces which was gifted to me back in high school. Experimenting with makeup and creating different looks was something I always loved to do.
About Tower 28
One company that you’ve probably seen a lot of recently is Tower 28. What I like about them is they are dedicated to using cleaner ingredients that are non-toxic, vegan, cruelty-free, nut-free, and dermatologist tested. Their lip jellies contain some lovely plant-based ingredients like apricot oil and raspberry seed oil that are nourishing for the lips.
I always have a tube of lipgloss with me and wanted to find one that I didn’t feel bad about using. Lip gloss is also something that I end up digesting since I always bite my lips and it rubs off while eating. So this was a great place to start if you are thinking about switching to a cleaner beauty product.
I bought my first lip gloss from them earlier in the year when my sister was telling me about their clean products since she knew I was always on the lookout for healthier makeup. The shade I purchased was Pistachio, which is a semi-sheer milky nude pink. I figured this would be a nice neutral shade that I can easily swipe on every day. What I love about this gloss is that it’s not drying. I have naturally full lips that easily get dry and peel a lot so I’m always looking for moisturizing products for my lips.
Price
Another thing I love was the price. Clean products can be pretty expensive and most fall above the 20-dollar mark. As of right now, these glosses are under 20 at 16 dollars, which is fairly reasonable for a clean beauty product. So when I like something I tend to buy a lot of it so I’ve purchased most of the shades in their line that compliment my light/medium tan skin tone. You can purchase them on their website and are also available at Sephora. I took advantage of their website’s Black Friday sale and the Sephora holiday sale last month to try out a lot of their shades for different looks. As an artist, you can tell the subtle differences between all the shades.
ShineOn Milky Lip Jelly Shades
I’m going to focus on the ShineOn Milky Lip Jellies, which are shades that are more neutral and everyday-friendly. These are the safer shades that compliment most skin tones and are great starter shades for a natural look. The milky shades that I purchased are:
- Pistachio – milky nude pink
- Cashew – milky rosy brown
- Sesame – milky mauve
- Oat – milky peachy pink
Other available shades
- Coconut – milky rosy pink
- Almond – milky chocolate
This product review is not sponsored and items were purchased on my own. I am sharing my honest opinion and experience with these products.
Pistachio
Semi-sheer milky nude pink. This was the first shade that I purchased. I tend to like to wear light nude pink shades. Great everyday color. I debated over the popular Coconut shade since they seem a little similar. But this one was more nude and less pink. So I opted in getting this one instead for a more neutral look.
Cashew
Semi-sheer milky rosy brown. I absolutely love this shade! It compliments my medium-tone skin really well. I find myself grabbing this one quite often. Lovely everyday neutral brown shade with a hint of pink. I used to wear something like this every day back in high school. Giving me 90s vibes.
Oat
Semi-sheer milky peachy pink. I wasn’t sure about this color when I first bought it because I thought it would be too light for my skin tone and make me look washed out. But I ended up loving it for days when I have a more dramatic eye look and want a completely neutral lip with shine.
Sesame
Semi- sheer, milky mauve. A nice elevated shade for when you’re going out with friends or on a date and you just want that extra color on your lip. I’m feeling some French vibes with this mauve color. Like I feel like I need to put on a beret when I wear this. Oh, Lala!
Hope you enjoyed this honest review on Tower 28 Milky ShineOn Lip Jelly. I’ll continue to share products from other clean brands that I love so stay tuned!
